I’ve been procrastinating… I’ve been thinking about him… I’ve been reflecting on his humility, his generosity, his kindness, his optimism, his glowing energy, his way of nurturing people… I’ve been thinking about cancer… I’ve been sad, angry, upset and confused… I’ve pushed my feelings aside, ignored them, because it hurts too much… because I DON’T KNOW what to SAY.

Screw you cancer! Get your filthy paws OFF of my friends! My mentors!

Jimmy… your support, your words, your advice, your hugs, your love… mean THE WORLD to me. It feels like yesterday I met you for the first time. I was with some of my colleagues from KGMB9 and you were singing at an event. You came over to me and whispered in my ear, “You’re my favorite.”

I’m smiling right now. And tearing up. It hurts so much to think of what you have been battling. To think of your wife… your daughter… and all those you have touched so deeply by just being YOU.

I have so much to say… but can’t find the words. The only way I can think of to express my feelings… is through song. Like you… I suppose. A memory I will cherish FOREVER is when you sang to me on my last day at Hawaii News Now. It wasn’t on TV… it wasn’t for exposure… it was for ME. I felt so special… honored… loved. Then, as now, I was a blubbering mess. As I reflect on our relationship and think of ways to honor you… I feel like showing people your kindness, humility and beautiful VOICE is the perfect way to do that.

THANK YOU for being my friend and mentor. THANK YOU for being that same calming presence and guiding light for so many others. THANK YOU for being YOU.
